Our History ~ "Where it all began..."

The Gerber Family resided here in what is now known as the Gerber Guest House which originally consisted of two separate homes. The first home pictured below was built home by Frank and Pauline Gerber during World War I. Their son, Dan and his wife Dorothy, built the second home to the east in 1923. It was in this residence that Dan and Dorothy raised their five children: Scotti, Sally, Paula, Gay and Dan Jr. It is in the kitchen of this home, sometime around 1927, where the the idea for Gerber Baby Food began. You may read more about "The Beginning" at the official Gerber web site. In 1955 the family moved to a larger home on Fremont Lake and the former home(s) were converted into the Gerber Guest House. The house was used for lodging Gerber Employees and others who were visiting Fremont and the Gerber Baby Food plant. It is now open to the public as a Bed and Breakfast.
